At the heart of this project is a motivated volunteer team of 22 high school students who every Saturday, for three months, spent their time brightening the days of elderly home residents in Prishtina, Kosovo.

On a weekly basis the students designed and selected activities they considered most engaging for the elderly residents. Some of the activities have included playing darts, listening to classical music, meditative drawing, and karaoke.

The value of this project is highlighted in the light shining from both the faces of the elderly and youth as they learn about each other and build bridges between their worlds.

All 22 students involved are developing a wider understanding of their community, as well as building interpersonal, communication and team working skills.

Their final meeting on the 5th of July marked the end of this project, but planted in them the seed of community. They will return to the elderly home in October and plant trees in their garden as a sign of love and respect.
