The “Fraction Ball” Project has come to an end – where students learned fractions through basketball, all while having fun at the same time!
Under the leadership of the Faculty of Education / University of Prishtina and in cooperation with the University of California Irvine and TOKA, the “Fraction Ball” project started with training a total of 13 teachers of 4-th and 5-th grade from the primary schools “Hilmi Rakovica”, “Nazim Gafurri” and “Xhemail Mustafa” from the municipality of Prishtina. The training helped them understand the use of an alternative curriculum for teaching fractions through a basketball game.
After completing the training, the teachers started implementing the project where the 4th and 5th grade students of these primary schools in Prishtina have learned fractions much differently – through basketball. The importance of this project emphasizes basketball games and classroom activities while focusing on the equality and engagement of all children, in order to develop students’ skills to communicate well, to work in a team, to be persistent, to be empathetic and problem solvers.
A special thank you goes to ‘’Hilmi Rakovica’’, ‘’Nazim Gafurri’’ and ‘’Xhemail Mustafa’’ primary schools, for the collaboration during this project, the teachers who were part of the project and the 4th and 5th grade students!
Through a closing ceremony TOKA distributed certificates and acknowledgements to all participating teachers for the amazing work they have done within the project.
We developed the project together with the University of California Irvine and the University of Prishtina / Faculty of Education – thanks to whom we have brought this new methodology of teaching fractions in Kosovo from the USA!
This activity is part of the environmental activities, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) through its “Human Rightivism” Program and is implemented by CDF and TOKA.
These are the latest developments from our programs and activities.
