TOKA Jonë Camp – Culture, language, entertainment and friendship.

September 6, 2023

“The experience gained in this camp has left me with unforgettable impressions, which I would not like to simply keep for myself, but to share with other young Albanians who live anywhere in the world and have the opportunity to get an experience such.” Amelja Kajdo, 14 years, Lushnje

The TOKA Jonë diaspora camp brought together 39 energetic and curious young people aged 14-16 from the diaspora, Albania and Kosovo. Across geographical distances, this experience was a bridge that fostered social skills, cultural exchange and new knowledge.

Some of the special experiences at the Camp were:
– Interactive visit to the historic city of Prizren, as well as participation in the famous film festival ‘Dokufest.’
– First Aid training from the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) and free conversation with them.
– Sending a postcard from the Camp, with the postage stamp ‘Taste Kosovo’ – specially created for the diaspora by the Post of Kosovo.
– Gallery 17 from Prishtina enabled the campers to ‘walk’ through the gallery through Virtual Reality technology.

As these young people return to their communities, they take with them lessons of unity – as a testament to the power to celebrate diversity and create lifelong social bonds.

It was very nice, I met new people, made friends. There were good rules and everyone respected them. If I have the chance, I will come next year.’ Viktoria Progmi, Athens, Greece

Finally, we thank all our supporters and partners in Kosovo and from the diaspora, who spread the word and encouraged young people to participate. As thanks, we let Ylli’s words lead the main mezash.

This was one of the most valuable and fun activities of this summer vacation! It was a pleasure to create new friendships with young people from the diaspora, it was quite special considering that the opportunities to interact with them are few until now. The camp was a perfect opportunity to get to know yourself and others better!’ Ylli Syla, 15 years, Pristina

Our TOKA camp is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, KCSF EJA Kosovë’ – co-financed by the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina, the Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (SIDA), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) , and the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
